What is going on Lucha Libre and Pro Wrestling fans? Thank you all for tuning in to this weeks' issue of the Ryan Kidd Weekly Newsletter! This is the second posting of the blog from Japan as I am continuing my stay and coming up on finishing my second week training here in Tokyo, Japan at the Wrestle-1 dojo! Things are going very well here for me. I am learning more than I could have imagined and making great personal progress and maturing both inside the ring and out. I'd like it to be known that this is due largely in part to the support of you; my fans that tune in to the blog every single week to keep up to date on my happenings overseas. Q: Since you are lighter than most of your opponents, how does that influence your strategy, or is it irrelevant?
A: It most certainly is not irrelevant. My entire style is based on my size. If I were able to overpower most of my opponents, I would not have to rely on high-risk maneuvers or different techniques to out wrestle an opponent. My size at times can definitely be a disadvantage to me when it comes to hitting or lifting an opponent. However, my light and smaller frame allows me to use moves that larger opponents typically can not and thus give me different advantages as I use moves to fly through the air to attack an opponent or even avoid impact attempts from slower moving opponents. It all depends on the opponent both in terms of size and style of wrestling. I just do the best I can with what I am given.
Q: What is an 'aerial assault' match? Have you ever been in one?
A: Typically an aerial assault match is simply a scramble match featuring mostly opponents that use a high flying or fast paced style. It is really just a fancy name to give to a match. Yes, I have been in an aerial assault and it was very high flying, fast paced, and hard hitting. I did enjoy it. Although you have to be careful in a match with multiple opponents; as an attack can literally come out of nowhere.
Q: How is Japan? When will you have your first wrestling match and against who?
A: It is really great. I am loving the difficult training and the culture/style of Professional Wrestling is very different and refreshing. The talent here is second to none and the shows here are presented extremely professionally. It is a lot to attempt to live up to. The life outside of the dojo is different as well. Tokyo is a large and crowded city with tons of unique sights to see. The food is different too but I have found a handful of different meals that I have very much enjoyed. As far as events go; I know that I will for sure take part in at least two Wrestle-1 events in some way and attend upwards of four in the month of February alone. I do know that this upcoming Saturday I will be wrestling on the Wrestle-1 event in Odawara. My opponents at this time are unknown to me. However, you can rest assured that an event recap will take place here on the blog following any in-ring action.
